More and more Australians are coming into contact with China. Business, cultural, recreational and sporting contacts have significantly increased in recent years.
The Australia-China Friendship Society (ACFS) is in a unique position to support the growth of these relationships.
By strengthening the connections between the people of Australia and China we aim to enhance understanding for the mutual benefit of both countries.
The ACFS aims to:
-
promote friendship and understanding between the peoples of Australia and China
foster interest in China and promote the study of historical, cultural, political and social experience
promote a positive image of China and to encourage the sharing of accurate information
cultivate and strengthen friendly relations with China.
The ACFS has a proud record. It was established in 1952 when the People’s Republic of China was still in its formative years. The ACFS was among the first to organisations worldwide to acknowledge the “New China.” Almost quarter of a century would pass before the Australian Government officially recognised the People’s Republic of China.
The ACFS was a key player in promoting interest in China, maintaining friendly relations between the Australian people and the people of China, and fostering Australia’s diplomatic recognition of China, which took place in 1972.
The ACFS continues to work for mutual understanding and to encourage the exchange of ideas, information and trade.
